The Salaam Network logo

There have been no in-person meetings since the start of the pandemic. However, TSN in partnership with All Peoples Unitarian Universalist Congregation initiated a Book-Movie Club/Study Guide in September 2020. This Group has been meeting twice a month for the most part, and once a month a few times during the summer. We studied Karen Armstrong’s “A Prophet for our time” and Omid Safi’s “Memories of Muhammad: Why the Prophet Matters,”  and Craig Considine’s “The Humanity of Muhammad: A Christian View.” We watched a number of acclaimed movies including “The Message,” “The Empire of Islam,” “The Sultan and the Saint,” And “Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain.” Each book and movie was accompanied by a critical commentary made by one or more TSN scholars. We have also had distinguished Guest Presenters including Charles Upton, Sufi, Poet, and expert on “The Covenants of Prophet Muhammad with the Christian World;” (April 2021), Craig Considine.

(April 2021);  Dr. Leonard Swidler explicating the “Dialogue Decalogue” or “Ten Principles of Interreligious/Interideological Dialogue” (June 2021); Dr. Matthew Pierce speaking on “Dual Religious Identities;” (August 2021), and Dr. Rohullah Amin telling us about the ground realities in Afghanistan.” (August 2021). The TSN team of scholars including Dr. Saleem Seyal, Dr. Brad Bowman, Dr.Riffat Hassan, Dr. Joe Brennan, Dr. Greg Hutcheson and Jim Aalen contributed their expert comments in one or more Group Discussion.

You will be pleased to know that in five years (2016-2021), TSN has made 136 presentations, in a variety of fora, to disseminate accurate information pertaining to Islam, linkages amongst the three Abrahamic faiths, discrimination against women and LGBTQ sisters and brothers, draconian legislation pertaining to immigrants and refugees, and Social Justice in a variety of contexts.  TSN received the Top-Rated Status for 2020 from the GreatNonProfits.org. In August 2021 TSN became a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity after meeting the BBB’s 20 Standards.

Since donations are TSN’s only source of financial support, I am writing to remind you that the Give for Good Louisville donation day is on September 17.   All donations to TSN are tax-exempt.

On behalf of TSN, I thank you for everything you do to advance our educational vision,

With warm regards,

Riffat Hassan
