Indoor Use Standards
1. SIGNAGE – Appropriate signs may be posted only on bulletin boards or with authorized
reusable adhesive – NO tape of any kind. Signs must be removed after the event for which
they were posted.
2. THERMOSTATS – The Event Coordinator may adjust thermostats using the temporary
override function. DO NOT PUSH THE “HOLD” BUTTON.
3. SUPERVISION – Children may NOT be left unsupervised, for their own safety.
4. FLOOR CARE – Lift or roll items rather than drag them to prevent scratches and
gouges. Chair movers are located in the Weston Hall closet and hand-trucks are in the
Welcoming Space closet.
5. OPEN FLAMES – Candles and oil lamps may be used with care to avoid fire danger and the
spillage of wax. Appropriate holders must be used. Matches and lighters may not be left
within reach of children.
6. CLEANUP – Leave each area you use in as good shape –or better — than you found it. Return
all items used (e.g., tables, chairs, tripods, screens, or other equipment) to their ordinary
locations / storage places unless specific other arrangements have been made. Failure to
put things back where they belong may result in charges against a cleaning deposit (Each
room has its own map showing the ordinary locations of the furniture and equipment that
belongs in that room, which is posted on the back of the door).
7. LOCKING UP – The Event Coordinator or Designated Responsible Party is responsible for
seeing that all lights are off, all doors are locked, and the facility is left in a safe condition,
usable by the next user.
8. EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS – Malfunctions of equipment should be reported to the event
coordinator who will inform the office staff.
9. BUILDING KEYS – Committee Chairs may request building keys issued by the office
staff. Building keys are individually numbered and shall be signed out and in; new
committee chairs must sign the key register upon obtaining keys from their predecessor.
Lost keys should be promptly reported to the office staff. Key fobs for some doors are
available and issued by church staff.
10. RECYCLING –In accordance with the 7th Principle of the Unitarian Universalist Association
(Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part) and the
designation of All Peoples as a Green Sanctuary congregation, we are recycling as much
waste as possible. All Peoples’ Green Sanctuary Committee has the responsibility of
ensuring that recycled items are stored and delivered to a recycling center in an efficient
manner. These guidelines will assist church members, friends, visitors, youth, and renters in
knowing what to recycle and where to put the recycled items.
At this time, All Peoples is recycling paper, aluminum, tin, plastic, glass, cardboard,
batteries, and compact fluorescent bulbs (CFBs). The table below outlines acceptable
recycling material and where to store the recyclables until it can be picked up and taken to a
recycling center.
Material Where Stored
Aluminum cans Trash can with yellow lid in kitchen
Plastic, Glass, Tin
Cans
Bins in scullery (kitchen dishwasher room)
Aluminum Foil
Cardboard Bins in scullery and/or recycling shed in back of building by
dumpster (please breakdown all boxes)
Paper Bins in office
Batteries Container in coat closet
CFBs Container in coat closet
Notes:
● All plastic must be marked with a recycling code, #1 through #7. We do not recycle
plastic wrap or plastic bags
● All plastic, tin and glass containers need to be rinsed out before being placed in the
recycle bin. We cannot recycle broken glasses, mugs, bowls, or plates
● Aluminum foil needs to be fairly clean and wadded up as much as possible
● Cardboard needs to be flattened before being placed in the bin. Large cardboard needs
to be flattened and placed directly in the outside recycling shed near the dumpster

envelopes, junk mail, magazines, telephone books and/or newspapers. We cannot
recycle Kleenex tissues; or wrapping paper/tissue
● We do not recycle Styrofoam
● Please do not bring your recyclables from home
● When the kitchen bins are full, they need to be taken to the outside recycling shed and
an empty bin returned to the kitchen
11. Cleaning Supplies – Renters or other facility users who are responsible for their own clean
up are asked to use cleaning products which are to be non-toxic, biodegradable and
effective. These are cleaning products with no harmful fumes, phthalates, bisphenol-A or
1,4-dioxane. Priority should be given to products that meet the Green Seal environmental
standard for industrial and institutional cleaners based on its reduced human and aquatic
toxicity and reduced smog production potential. Green Seal is an independent nonprofit
organization, recognized for awarding certification to products that prove to be
environmentally preferable and effective after scientific evaluation. Guidelines for using
kitchen cleaning products will be posted in the kitchen.
12. Least Environmentally Disruptive Products – Facility users should make every reasonable
effort to purchase and use the least environmentally disruptive available products, e.g.
paper or washable cups instead of Styrofoam cups; paper or washable plates instead of
“disposable” plastic plates, biodegradable garbage bags instead of non-biodegradable bags,
etc.
