Advocate for Louisville’s Transition to 100% Renewable Energy

In December 2021, The Justice Center and Green Sanctuary Committee launched a campaign to ask the Mayor & Metro Council members to include money in our upcoming budget for solar installations on city owned buildings.  This campaign is in support of the Metro Council Resolution that calls for Metro Government to be carbon neutral, using 100% renewable energy, by 2030 (see the full Resolution here https://louisville.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=4324981&GUID=F850C816-ED26-46C5-B313-4107CF4C18B3).

We started our campaign by asking people to send their Metro Council representative a postcard requesting that they ensure funding for solar power is included in the FY23 city budget.

In March, we launched a postcard campaign with Mayor Fischer asking that he include a minimum of $1,000,000 for solar installations in the coming fiscal year.  We have prepared postcards that people can sign on Sunday mornings at church or you can email the Mayor here (https://louisvilleky.gov/government/mayor-greg-fischer/contact-mayors-office).

The postcard reads, “As you are preparing the city’s upcoming budget, I hope you will be sure to include funding for solar energy.  Previously, you endorsed the 2020 Metro Council Resolution which calls for 100% renewable energy for city operations by 2030.  I feel it is critical that we begin to fund that transition as quickly as possible. Please consider budgeting at least one million dollars for solar energy. Our future depends on your actions today!”

Please encourage family & friends to join our campaign, and let our city’s leaders know how important it is for Louisville to transition to 100% clean renewable energy as soon as possible.

We have most recently met with the Mayor’s staff, are workign with our congregational partners to also meet with her, are monit\toring city budget meetings; and are planning meetings with individual Metro Council representatives.  If you would like to more fully participate in any of these efforts, please contact the Justice Center coordinator at justicecenter@allpeoplesuu.com.
