The Roberta Marx Gallery has a running wall space of approximately 47 feet, with gallery lamps and a skylight. This modern gallery is a professional, clean, and well-lighted space located just inside the main entrance of the building. It is used by professional and inspirational artists to display their work.

A staff person is available during business hours and on Sundays, to welcome visitors to view the gallery.

Requirements for Submission of Works to the Gallery Committee:

The works are to be appropriate to display to both children and adults.

Artists will help arrange and hang or mount the exhibition, unless they are at too great a distance to do so. The artist’s assistance with this process will assure the safety of the work. Artists are expected to carry insurance on their work, as liability and responsibility do not rest with All Peoples UU. In addition, damage in shipping or transporting work is also the responsibility of the artist.

Sales of artwork are handled through the church office and a commission is retained by the church. Works sold (if they are marked for sale) may occasionally be removed before the end of the time allotted for the exhibition. In this case, the artist will be consulted and allowed to replace the piece with another. Allowing all pieces to remain until the end of the time of the exhibition will be strongly encouraged.

Artists are expected to provide information in the form of contact information, titles, medium, sizes and prices of all artwork exhibited; an artist’s statement and inventory of all work to be displayed should accompany submission. An artist’s agreement will be signed by the artist before works are delivered to All Peoples UU.

Unitarian Universalism and the Marx Gallery

We realize that many artists may be members of other faith traditions and may not be familiar with Unitarian Universalism. In selecting artists we seek a diversity of artwork and a variety of subject matter and media. However, given the unique nature of this gallery, we ask that artists consider how their work is a reflection of, or in tune with, the principles of Unitarian Universalism. Since All Peoples UU is a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association, we covenant to affirm and promote:

1. The inherent worth and dignity of every person.
2. Justice, equity and compassion in human relations.
3. Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations.
4. A free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
5. The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.
6. The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all.
7. Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

In the unlikely event that there is controversy over a particular piece, the artist will be consulted and a mutually agreeable solution will be found.
