Third Afghan Family sponsored by All Peoples with Muslim Americans for Compassion July 2022

The International Justice Committee received notice about a week ago that our third family from Afghanistan was on the way to Louisville. This time it’s a family of eight!  The father of the family, Tamim, has been in the USA since August, 2021. He has most recently been working at Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) as a grants specialist. He has been uncertain all this time about the safety of his family, and has been worried that he might never see any of them again.

Tamim’s dream came true on Thursday, July 8 when his wife, 4 children, and his in-laws arrived safely in Louisville.

Along with Tamim, there were members of All Peoples, Muslim Americans for Compassion congregation, and staff from KRM at the airport to greet the family.

Meanwhile, back at the house rented the day before, members of both congregations were putting sheets on beds, dishes on the shelves, and light bulbs in the lamps. After learning the hard way from our first two Afghan families, we knew this time to get a pressure cooker, tea kettle for boiling water, and a teapot to serve the tea. We also knew to get loose tea, not the bags.

Thanks to the many hands who helped get the house ready on very short notice.  Once the family is settled, we will go back and visit and see how we can help facilitate their transition to living in Louisville.
