Accessibility of Building and Programs
We welcome and affirm people of all abilities. We have taken the following steps to assure that no one is excluded from full participation in the life of our church.
Mobility
Our sanctuary, fellowship hall and religious education classrooms are fully accessible to those using wheelchairs or having limited mobility. We do have storage rooms in the church basement that can only be reached by stairs. We have three a gender neutral and accessible restroom in the RE wing. Our other restrooms also have grab bars, but may not be as accessible to wheelchairs.
Sight
Large print hymnals and Orders of Service are always available. We also have a braille hymnal. Please ask any greeter for assistance. If you would like an orientation tour of the campus please contact the church office to make arrangements.
Hearing
We have wire loop technology connected to our PA system. During all church meeting and workshops, anyone wishing to speak from the audience is strongly encouraged to use the portable microphones so those who are hard of hearing are not excluded.
At this time we do not have an ASL interpreter, but we are willing to make accommodations for those interpreting for a friend or loved one.
Chemical Sensitivity
We use odorless candles and do not burn incense in the sanctuary.
Special Needs Children
We welcome children at all ability levels. We strive to accommodate learning differences and neurodiversity. The Director of Lifespan Religious Exploration works closely with a veteran special education teacher who specializes in neurodiversity and Autism Spectrum Disorder to assure that you and your your child feels welcome and supported. If you feel that your child may require special accommodation due to learning disabilities or behavioral issues in order to participate in RE houre, please contact the Director of Lifespan Faith Exploration in advance so the best possible arrangements can be made.
Pastoral Care
We provide pastoral care to all members regardless of ability. To build the beloved community, the volunteers on the care team receive special training to assist those who may feel unwelcome, patronized or marginalized because of their disability. They may not be able to fully remedy every situation, but they can provide a compassionate ear and a willingness to enlist the help of others. If you have a hidden disability that you think it’s important for someone to know, please contact the Caring Ministry or contact the minister to share your information in confidence.
Service Animals
Service animals are always accepted inside the building. Please be sure that your animal is “On Duty” and in appropriate attire so that congregants know your companion is working. There are grassy areas available to walk your companion and poo bags available on the RE shelves next to the exit in the Welcoming Space. Please be sure to keep your companion on a leash/ harness even when they are “on a break.”
If you have any questions or concerns that have not been addressed here, please contact the church office to seek further information.
