Giving Tuesday- Justice Center- We’ve got a lot of work to do!

Good morning my friends;
I hope you all are well and that you all had a lovely and refreshing Thanksgiving weekend.
I am writing to update you with some emerging plans that we’re developing for the Justice Center for 2025.
Last month’s election has generated a period of reflection for us, and has helped to set some new directions for the coming year.  We’ll continue some of what we started this year, of course (the Interfaith Environmental Action Network, building skills to engage in meaningful advocacy, working within the congregation and between congregations to advance racial justice…) while also pivoting to include another significant focus.  I’ll be working to engage some of these efforts we’ve already begun into this new direction.
The new initiative will be developing our collective efforts to resist some of the provisions that the Trump administration has promised.  Most of that will be at the federal level, but will have direct local consequences.  We can effectively resist on the ground to some of what we has been promised.  The Justice Center has proven our ability to engage in interfaith organizing!
For example, we’ve all heard President elect Trump’s plans for mass deportation. JCPS has a policy that they will not work with ICE, however some board members seem to be waffling on this position.  There is a role of the faith community to support our school board to follow through on its own policy.  AND, we can do more to ensure that the immigrant community here feel supported and cared for.
We also know that the incoming Trump administration is promising to continue its attack on the trans community. In a state that has already positioned itself as one of the most hostile to the trans community, there is a role for the faith community to stand in solidarity and support!
And we know that the incoming administration continue its legacy of perpetrating harm to our environment.
We can, and are called to resist!
The Justice Center is planning efforts which we will launch in earnest in January, to help develop the Faith communities confidence, comfort, skills and readiness to resist; and build our collective abilities to resist what we can expect to be coming.

We need your support with these efforts.

Today is Giving Tuesday — and the launch of the end of year fundraising appeal by the Justice Center   We have a goal of raising $5000 by the end of the year to support the critical work we’ll be engaging in.

Many of you have already generously supported the Justice Center this year.  For this I tank you mighty!  some of you haven’t yet provided support to the work we’re doing.

As we close out the year and start looking to the holidays and peaceful time with loving friends and family, I ask that you consider sharing your love with the justice Center with a gift to support the work we’re doing.
